I think the explanations are clearly written, though I have only used it for Word and Outlook so far. However, on page 7 the assumption was made that I had already installed MSO It was installed by the company from whom I bought my computer using windows 8.

However, it didn’t work satisfactorily and eventually i had to consult MS’s help line to get started. A hint or two about the initial installation and possible problems would have been helpful in your book.

Just downloaded MS Office and as I haven’t used office for some considerable time I decided to buy this book. Some of the stuff, especially at the start, was pretty basic but I quickly discovered the best way to use this book is to use the index to just read the relevant bits for the app you are using at the time. Simple to follow – really good. Useful resource to look at time and again. I find the printed diagrams to small to read properly and not enough help is given for people like me who are experts with computers.

Would have liked more detail but a good intro to the topic with nice illustrations. Easy to dip in and out. One person found this helpful. See all reviews. Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations.

Verified Purchase. I think office which I got in has been the best office from a user perspective. Newer versions have changes to the user interface that I find make it less user friendly. But alas time moves on and my beloved office is no longer supported. I like my perpetual licensed products. I can get them still but I worry that Microsoft will go to subscription only like Adobe :- Because of 9 years of great use I’m giving Office Home and Office 5 stars. I was told that would not be a problem.

When I got my activation key it would not work in France, despite the ‘no problem’ statement. I ended up going through 3 different support agents before I got one that could sort the problem out. But if I did not have someone in the US that could activate it for me it would not have been possible, because that was the only way it could be done.

But beware if you buy the activation key version of this, make sure you buy it from your own location to be sure you can activate it. Now I have it installed everything seems fine. Oulook pulled in all the data from my old Office files which you have to uninstall before installing the new Office program and even set up all my directories for me. For some bizarre reason however I cannot get my Google email account to work. Which may be down to the double security feature that I am using.

But I am not sure if that is because of Google, Microsoft or me at the moment. If you are wondering about Office and Windows 8, they are supposed to be compatible but is no longer supported and my Outlook version simply wouldn’t work with Windows 8. So with no support and no real help as to why, I ended up buying this product.

The other Office programs worked fine with Windows 8, Outlook was the only issue, but I decided to buy the whole Office suite in case of possible incompatibilities between the versions. Office has a lot of differences to but I am gradually getting used to it and they are 10 years apart so I sort of expected that. So other than the glitch with activation I am reasonably happy with this product and can’t see what all the fuss is about with Windows 8 either. One person found this helpful.

What’s The Big Deal? When I purchased my new desktop, I decided to purchase this software soon after. I then decided to purchase the key Card which came with a substantial discount.

I received it a few days later and decided to move ahead with the download expecting a disaster like so many of the reviews I had read. I already had a MS account which I had to open to register for the new computer. I’m not too keen on that aspect of things but, so be it. I logged into the account and then went to the web site as instructed for the download. No problems so far.

I started the download which took about 15 minutes on my DSL network. I then went thru the setup wizard and received a message saying I had finished the process and my account was activated. I then went to open Outlook when a message popped up with a error message saying there was a problem. Could all these reviews be right?? I then looked in my computer files and it looked like everything from the program was there. What to do? Well, how about a restart? This is often part of a software process so I clicked away.

Shure enough. I started getting a bunch of configuring messages. This took about 15 minutes more. During this process I was asked if I wanted Outlook to set up my e-mail accounts.

I entered 3 accounts and in a matter of minutes, Outlook configured all my accounts and loaded the e-mail. I did not get my address books or my folders but I will work on that. I can’t explain why I was not instructed to reboot however, I have hardly ever had a download of a program like this that did not have a glitch of some kind.

BTW, Word looks great! I strongly wish that MS would provide better guidance to the download process but minor glitches seem to be a part of this process. A little common sense will generally solve many of the problems. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. Works well , no problem registering software. Excellent product at a reasonable price. Report abuse. Not tried Word yet. When I bought this weird version of Microsoft Office, , I bought if for Word and Outlook, and assumed it would just be a newer version of my relatively trusty copy of the version.

I installed it on a new desktop machine, along with a secondary email address that I seldom use, pending the day when I can transfer my main email address from this laptop.

I’m not yet ready to move that address, as my wife’s mail is also on the laptop and will need considerable pruning and maintenance before I can consider adding an account for her to the new desktop, and add her mail. I have to imagine the new Word hasn’t changed much, but have not used it yet and hope it’s as good as ever. However, I find the look of the new version of Outlook very spaced out and disappointing, compared with the old.

And despite that it probably has all or most of its earlier functions, and possibly more, It looks very bare by comparison. It’s possible I can eventually improve it with settings changes, but I find the old version far more easily understood, more compact, and better organized. Incidentally, I’m not using the new desktop at present, as I’m still gradually adding backed up data and software from an old desktop machine that used to contain all of our email, but the hard drive of which suddenly became unstable and unusable, necessitating a switch to my laptop of my main email.

Let me say that might grow on me in due course, but my early feelings are that it’s just a bare bones version of the original, designed more for company offices than for personal use. And I feel as if their idea was that provided all that businesses need was included, why worry about its appearance If I could I’d give it 3. I will not be using the other functions of Office.

Most of the Office package works well and installs well over a previous version of Office. The problems come with Outlook. Microsoft has never got the bugs out when you replace one version of Outlook with a newer version or upgrade the OS. There are always problems with the PST file: corruption, missing contacts, etc. In my case Office installed on an new upgrade to Windows 10 , incoming email disappeared–it arrived but could not be found. It took me four hours by a process of elimination to solve the problem–a simple fix once you find it.

Online forums and Microsoft chat support were no help. In short, Office works well, once you sort out the Outlook bugs.

First off, I have been using Microsoft Word professionally since its inception, approximately hours a day since the days of Works. Thirdly, and I think this sums it up for all longtime Windows users: They did to Microsoft Word what they did to Windows with Windows 8.

Like I said, I have been using Word professionally since its inception, and have been very happy with each successive incarnation Basically, what has been done with this new Office Professional is they’ve turned the professional standard for writers everywhere my profession, which I’ve been doing full time for the last 20 years into a marketing technique to collect email addresses, push products and Cloud services, and force people to play by Microsoft’s rules And I can use this on only 1 computer?

Are you serious? And not only are they doing to Microsoft Word what they did to Windows with Windows 8, but they’re making it impossible to buy legitimate previous versions that worked.

Normally, I would just read the copious negative reviews and not purchase an item, simple as that. Here, however, I wasn’t given that leisure because my last work computer just died. So yes, Microsoft, if you are reading this, I am a loyal fan that you are very close to losing, and losing big. Word was my go-to program my entire professional life, and now that I can’t seem to purchase a working version of it anymore, I’m having to start looking at alternatives.

It really burns me to be used like that, not only the loss of money, but the apparent disregard that Microsoft seems to have for my consistent patronage throughout my professional career. Bottom line: I want something that works. Tips I have to Microsoft to regain my trust as a consumer: 1 Don’t force me to sign up for cloud service, or force me to give you my email address and ‘make an account’ in order to download and use your product. I know damn well you’re using me in a bid to take on Apple and Google.

As if the ‘apps’ references weren’t a teensy, tiny, subtle hint, the ‘cloud’ and the happy-go-lucky way you forced me to use the ‘storefront’ when I didn’t want to was totally useless See Item 1.

This just sucks. It really and truly sucks. As a professional, I need something that works, and works well, and consistently. This version does NOT live up to its predecessors, and honestly, I don’t care how you fix it, I just want the functionality I had in the past. Specifically, I want Office That, in my opinion, is the pinnacle of your creative genius, and I desperately want it back.

I am not some stick-in-the-mud year-old dinosaur I am a year-old writing professional, and I’ve been using Microsoft products since I was in grade school.

Believe me when I say you have dropped the ball, here, and you need to do some damage control. Taking away my ability to use my software on more than one computer in my own home, while charging the same price if not more is, again, infuriating and insulting my intelligence.

You seem very proud of the fact that you offered people the ability to install the program on a new computer every 90 days if the old computer dies.

Perhaps this is a news flash, but that gesture did little to correct the problem. Again, I’m not stupid. I know that, by limiting the legal usability of the licensed version of Office, you are trying to push people to buy Office and its ‘generous’ 5 computer subscription services, which, by the way, I have tried. I cancelled my subscription the DAY it expired one year later because it was totally useless to me, and even more buggy than this. Anyway, that’s what needs to happen to renew my faith as a fan and consumer.

I honestly, truly and genuinely, just want and need a product that works efficiently, effectively, localized and completely self-contained on my machine, with a complete lack of bugs or bullcr p. If Microsoft does NOT correct the above issues, with a quickness, my prediction as a professional writer is that Word will no longer be the go-to software of choice for people in my profession in approximately two years, since it seems like that’s how long it takes most computers to fail.

My further prediction is that this abomination of a writing program will allow a competitor to gain a foothold in what has been, up until now, totally dominated by Word. As it is, I’m going to start looking into alternatives immediately.

I can’t go with software that doesn’t perform to standard. A lot of improvements over Office , and you can a actually split Excel into two different screens! Just a shame that Microsoft fragments their products into a confusing bunch of different versions Professional, Pro Plus!

Although I’m not disputing that, I’ve found that you can get used to the changes pretty fast and enjoy the improved functionalities of Office What has not been mentioned here, is the fact that ‘PowerPivot’ is no longer free in Excel as opposed to Excel So in my case, my upgraded Excel files no longer supported the ‘PowerPivot’ files and even though I purchased Office Professional , I’m no longer entitled to PowerPivot.

I’ve bought this version of Microsoft Office for university as I need all of the applications it has. It had a unique way of installing the applications. Instead of the traditional download the whole application then install it, this one streamed the application to me. Which is amazing since I don’t have a very fast internet speed but I was able to use Excel within minutes despite the total size of the application.

The functionality of this version of Office is great but the only downside is, Excel lacked a lot of themes that were on Microsoft Office which made me Google them and download them just to use them instead of Microsoft bundling every theme that was in to this version. Due to circumstances both frustrating and infuriating, I found myself needing to buy, or rather buy the right to download, Office In short, despite my 2-star “I don’t like it” rating, I really hate this ‘new’ Office.

Stark, boxy, inelegant menus, an interface both clumsy and confusing; Options moved around even more drastically than the prior Office interface revamps; It’s not compatible with XP yes, I know Microsoft is abandoning XP, but I still have computers with the OS ; Application suite has a license for only one PC guess that’s why I shouldn’t worry about backwards compatibility ; The relatively astronomical cost in comparison to what it delivers when compared to past editions; The push for online everything.

If I wanted an online presence, if I wanted to store my stuff on a corporation’s server, if I wanted my applications loaded onto my computer to ride my connection to tell Microsoft what I’m doing – but I don’t, so stop trying to convince me how great and convenient it all would be.

Say hello instead to my firewall. I also hate that I don’t really have a copy of Office , and I fear that the problems that forced me to ‘upgrade’ to will reoccur and force me to eat this rather expensive version and foist the next ‘new and improved’ iteration of Office onto my computer.

This version seems to have a need to ‘think’ a bit longer than the version before executing a command; Excel has exhibited some instability and has crashed on rare occasions. I gave Office two stars, since there is some functionality buried in its shortcomings. But this ‘upgrade’ is, in my opinion, no upgrade at all. This is an update and a “fix” to the installation problem.

Dithered about buying this, but did so as I had been using Office and it could no longer deal with my requirements. It downloaded and installed without any problems but I just could not get it to work.

Every time I tried to use it my computer crashed. They were absolutely fantastic. A lovely lady took over my machine remotely and had the problem fixed in no time. I had a program on my computer called Abby Fine Print that was preventing Office from working. I was not aware that this was on my computer, as I had not installed it.

It had been a piggyback download with some other software that had been installed Once that was removed everything worked just fine. I am so pleased I purchased it. It is so much better than any office I have used. I had used Office and had been impressed, but this is fantastic and trying to compere it with Office is like trying to compere an old banger with a new Bentley Continental there is just no comparison. How cool is that.
